Little Falls at Pequot Lakes
With the announcement that the fall sports season would be done on Friday, Section 8AA volleyball decided to try and put together a ‘tournament’ to end the season.
The undefeated Pequot Lakes Patriots hosted Little Falls in on ‘Semifinal’. Pequot Lakes came ready to play by dominating the first set after the Flyers scored the first two points. The Patriots outscored the Flyers 19-4 to take a 19-6 lead and the first set 25-11.
The Patriots led wire-to-wire in set two, starting with a 12-4 jump before the Flyers scored five straight points to cut it to 12-9. Pequot Lakes reset and outscored Little Falls 13-4 the rest of the way, including the final seven points to go up 2-0 with a 25-13 win.
The Flyers weren’t about to give up. They jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set three and avoided the sweep with a 25-19 win where they held the lead for the entire set. That was only the third set loss in the Patriots’ eleven matches in 2020.
The loss fired up the Patriots, as they started the fourth set with a 10-1 run and never looked back securing the win with a 25-9 victory.
The Patriots are 11-0 and will host Perham Friday night to wrap up the 2020 season.
