Clearbrook, MN –The Red Lake Warriors and the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears duked it out on Tuesday night in Clearbrook. These two teams were set to face off all the way back on the 15th of January but were forced to push the game back. Red Lake came into the game at 2-0 and Clearbrook-Gonvick, who should have had 3 games under their belt, came into the game at only 1-0 after defeating Kelliher/Northome on the 19th.
The game started off as expected as a back and forth game until both teams reached the 15 point mark. But Red Lake was able to pull away thanks to TeAndra Pemberton-Kingbird off the bench who stepped in and scored 16 points in the first half.
The momentum throughout the latter half of the first half swung heavily on the side of the Red Lake Warriors leaving everyone thinking that the game was about to get out of hand resulting in a halftime score of 43-26 in favor of Red Lake.
In the second half, Red Lake was able to push their lead to as much as 25 but with the pace of the game being high it gave Clearbrook-Gonvick the opportunity to chip back into the lead as long as the Bears could get stops on the defensive end of the floor. The Bears were able to cut the lead all the way down to 11 points late in the game but empty possessions and cold shooting down the stretch cemented their fate and Red Lake defeated Clearbrook-Gonvick 81-68.
Red Lake improves to 3-0 and will travel to Lake of the Woods on February 4th. For Clearbrook-Gonvick, they fall to 1-1 and will be at home again versus Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Friday and that game will be carried on 1480 AM/99.7 FM KKCQ.
