The Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears held off a late rally by Red Lake to pull out the home win Tuesday night. The two teams had played back on February 12 in Red Lake with the Warriors coming out on top 83-80. The Bears were able to hold on to the lead Tuesday night until the Warriors took their first lead of the night at 56-55 with 5:19 left in the game. The Warriors would eventually build their lead to five at 62-57 but the Bears came roaring back and took the lead for good at 64-63. Alex Dawson and Kolten Schultz each scored 20 points for the Bears with Dawson pulling down 13 rebounds. Logan Westrum added 16 points for Clearbrook-Gonvick as the Bears improve to 4-7 overall. Delwyn Holthusen led Red Lake with 28 points and 17 rebounds as the Warriors fall to 7-4 overall. Aaron Chaboyea added 12 points for Red Lake. Five players fouled out of the game with Red Lake having four of their players foul out. The Bears shot 18 of 34 at the free throw line with Red Lake shooting 10 of 21 at the stripe. Both teams will return to action on Friday, February 26th with Clearbrook-Gonvick hosting East Grand Forks Sacred Heart and Red Lake on the road at Nevis. Clearbrook-Gonvick won the “B” Squad game over Red Lake 62-58.
