Page, ND — Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page put its best foot forward against Northern Cass, but Northern Cass was always a step ahead during Tuesday night’s Class B bash.
The Jaguars defeated the Spartans 67-61 in a tightly-knit game by both teams that saw one Northern Cass senior guard net a game-high 30 points. Jace Crockett unleashed from all areas of the court, scoring 17 in the first half and 13 more in the second. Northern Cass led 22-10 at the end of the first quarter and 38-27 at halftime.
Spartan sophomore Landon Koenig swished a quarter-court trey at the buzzer before the half to cut the lead to 11 and finished the game tied for a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds. This is Koenig’s third-straight-double-digit performance. Senior guard Owen Zerface also bucketed 15 points.
Sophomore forward Xyler Carlson put up 14 points while junior forward Blake Jacobsen had 12. Senior forward Ryan Tuite hit a lone 3-pointer, and senior guard Dalton Stein scored one point off a free throw.
Only one other Jaguar scored in double digits — freshman guard Landon Moser with 10 off the bench. Senior guard Hunter Almaras found eight points, and junior guard Leighton Strommen scored seven. Crockett added five rebounds to his exceptional night while Kolby Vander Wal snared seven boards and scored two points.
The Spartans shot 9-15 from the foul line with Koenig hitting 5-5. The Jaguars hit 14-23, 7-10 coming from Crockett with clutch free-throw shooting late in the game.
With the rest of the week off, FSHP (3-7) comes back next Monday on Jan. 25 in an away game for North Prairie (4-4) at 7:30 p.m. Petersburg, North Dakota. Northern Cass takes on Enderlin (8-1) this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Enderlin, North Dakota.
