North Border at Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page (Girls Basketball & Boys Basketball Doubleheader)

Hope, ND — After just barely stumbling out of the gates in the first quarter, the North Border girls’ basketball team shot back with a vengeance against Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page on Saturday in the old Hustler Dome.

The Eagles beat the Spartans 49-29 after only trailing twice throughout the afternoon during a doubleheader that saw the North Border boys win as well. This is the North Border’s girls’ fourth-win in a row against FSHP. The Spartans took the lead at 3-0 in the first quarter thanks to a and-one bucket by sophomore forward Allison Stomsodt and led nearly the entire first quarter.

However, North Border freshman guard Lauren Carrier, who came off the bench, drained a 3-pointer from the left wing to give her Eagles an 11-10 lead at the end of the first period. Carrier finished with seven points, but left early in the fourth quarter due to a left knee injury. North Border coach Patrick Dunnigan believes it’s just a deep bruise.

The Spartans took a quick lead at the start of the second period at 13-11, but it was all Eagles after that, as a 12-3 run ensued in favor of North Border to end the first half. Sophomore guard Addison Brown led the charge for North Border with a game-high 15 points, 10 coming in the second half. Freshman guard Jenna Fraser scored eight points in the second half and finished with 13.

Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page freshman forward Reagan Zerface led the Spartans with 11 after scoring 21 points on Friday night against Griggs-Midkota. Her Spartans couldn’t muster a solid offense in the second quarter with only three points being scored. North Border outscored FSHP 25-13 in the second half.

After starting the first three games of the season on the road, North Border (2-1) comes home to face Hatton-Northwood (2-0) on Monday at Pembina, North Dakota. As for FSHP (1-2), the Spartans hit the road to play Larimore (1-2) on Monday in Larimore, North Dakota.
