Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at Pequot Lakes
Six turnovers and defensive struggles in the first half doomed the Pequot Lakes Patriots in the season opener hosting the Rebels of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. Senior Running back Justin Wang seemed unstoppable, rolling up 155 yards and three scores for DGF in the first 24 minutes. With the score 14-0, the Patriots got on the board with an impressive drive covering 80 yards as Bode Magnuson scrambled and connected with Ryan Monahan streaking across the middle of the end zone. The two-point conversion was successful to make it 14-8. DGF marched right back down the field to answer the score, and tacked on another to lead at the break 26-8. The second half was a totally different story. The Patriots defensive adjustments completely shut down the Rebel offense with four straight ‘three-and-outs’, and the Patriot offense started grooving. Magnuson and Monahan hooked up two more times on touchdowns of 60 and 29 yards as the offensive line gave Magnuson all sorts of time to survey the field. Both conversions failed making it 26-20 heading into the 4th quarter. The Patriots seemed to be going in for the tying score on both drives in the final frame, only to be thwarted in the end zone by interceptions by senior cornerback Brandon Watt of DGF. The only first down in the second half for DGF came on their final drive, which was all they needed to run out the clock. The 0-1 Patriots travel to 0-1 Park Rapids Thursday night for week two.
