It took overtime to decide the winner in a battle of 2 ranked teams in class A boys basketball, and with made free throws and some big rebounds in the extra session the Mahnomen Waubun Thunderbirds stayed undefeated with the overtime win over Nevis 83-78.  The first half was back and forth with ties and lead changes, but eventually the Thunderbirds were able to build an 8 point lead.  Nevis found their stride late in the half with some big 3s and cut the deficit to 3 at the halftime mark at 32-29.  In the 2nd half the Thunderbirds used a run to build a double digit lead of 13 only to see Nevis get hot from beyond the arc knocking down several 3s to tie the game and eventually take a lead.  The game would go back and forth from that point and as time wound down both teams would miss opportunities leaving the game tied at 73 at the end of regulation.  In the overtime period after a quick tie at 78 Mahnomen Waubun would make a couple of shots forcing Nevis to foul and with some made free throws and big offensive rebounds the Thunderbirds would secure the victory to move to 10-0 on the season dropping Nevis to 8-2.
