Aitkin County Board approves preliminary 2022 Budget at September 28th meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners did hear Department reports and continued moving forward with the coming new year from the Government Center Board Room on Tuesday, September 28th.
Commissioners did approve the MSA Professional Services grant, donations to the Aitkin County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, Search & Rescue group, and Sentence to Serve. The Board also approved a final contract payment to Allied Blacktop Company of Maple Grove for seal coating on County Highway 39 and a Joint Powers Agreement with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for Community Corrections.
Habitat for Humanity Director Ann Schwartz spoke to the Board on their recent activity including finishing up the new Habitat home on Minnesota Avenue in Aitkin.
The Board also moved forward with a consensus for CliftonLarsenAllen to implement the new GASB 87 accounting standard after a presentation on the 2020 Audit review. Long Lake Conservation District manager Dave McMillian, with Land Commissioner Rich Courtemanche, gave an update on the LLCC and their return of schools visiting.
Following the establishment of the Land Auction for December 3rd, the Board recognized Land Commissioner Rich Courtemanche in his final Board meeting before leaving the County.
Commissioners also did approve to submit an application for the Economic Development Child Care Grant, as well as grant requests from Unbound Adventures, Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce, Jaques Art Center, City of Palisade, and Lake Mille Lacs Scenic Byway.
A Public Hearing to discuss the Zoning Ordinance Classification Change on October 26th at 11am. Approval was given to ratify the Teamsters Licensed Essential Unit Agreement, the hiring of a full-time Administrative Assistant dependent on grant funding and the hiring of a full-time Office Assistant.
Administrator Jessica Seibert presented the 2022 Preliminary Budget to the Board for adoption.
The Board also set the 2022 Budget Hearing Date for December 14th at 6:05pm with the next regular meeting to follow on December 21st.
The Aitkin County Board of Commissioners will next meet on Tuesday, October 12th at 9am from the Government Center Board Room.
