Pioneer Days Highlights Traditions of the “Good Old Days”
Ada, MN — The Norman County Historical Society will be showcasing and offering up a taste of history this Saturday through their Pioneer Days at the Fun in the Flatlands in Ada this Saturday. Their Pioneer Food Court will offer a number old time and ethnic food options from the good old days, including potato dumplings, homemade chicken noodle soup, lefsa, romegrot, popcorn balls, apple crisp, and a number of other Norwegian and German foods. In years past, Pioneer Days, has also featured a number of real-life demonstrations of pioneer skills and traits, but Solveig Kitchell of the Norman County Historical Society, says it’s gotten increasingly difficult to find people capable of demonstrating those activities.
The Norman County Historical Society does, however, have roughly a dozen young actors who will be dressing and playing the part of local pioneers throughout the day.
And there will also be an opportunity for you to bring a piece of history home with you this Saturday. Kitchell says they will be raffling off a number of unique items as well as offering up some pieces for a small donation.
The Pioneer Village and the log museum on the Northwest corner of the fairgrounds will also be open for exploration this Saturday.
