Kelly Thronson Memorial BBQ Contest Returns with New Location in 2021
Ada, MN — Do you have the best BBQ on the block? Take your talents to the next level and challenge your recipe for ribs against a few dozen others during the annual Kelly Thronson Memorial BBQ Contest on Saturday, September 11th at the Norman County Fairgrounds in Ada. The big change this year is the location. Normally held in downtown Ada, the event moved to the fairgrounds because of the amenities and additional space, according to organizer Austen Germolus.
You don’t have to be an expert rib cooker to enter the contest either. Germolus says many of the competitors are competing for the first time and even if you aren’t confident in your ribs, you can still compete in the People’s Choice by cooking other protein-based dishes.
The lucky judges for this year’s Kelly Thronson Memorial BBQ Contest will be comprised of area first responders, which Germolus says is a tribute to the date that the contest falls on this year.
The cost to register for the BBQ contest is $65 per team, which includes two racks of ribs. Additional ribs are available for $15 each. To register, stop in to McCollum Hardware in Ada. The contest is limited to the first 35 teams.
A Community Supper will follow the contest at 6pm at the fairgrounds featuring pork loin, beans, and fresh cut fries. For complete event details, visit the Kelly Thronson Memorial Backyard BBQ Facebook page.
