Experience Arts & Culture at Mahnomen Wild Rice Day this Saturday
Mahnomen, MN — Experience arts and culture, shopping, food, music, and more during this Saturday’s Wild Rice Day in downtown Mahnomen. Events and activities start early in the morning and go late into the night. Wild Rice Day, which happens to coincide with the local Wild Rice harvest, is a collaboration of many community partners including the City of Mahnomen, Giziihigan Arts Center, Mahnomen Area Boosters, Mahnomen Tribal Community Council, and Headwaters Regional Development Commission. The centerpiece of the day is the arts and cultural activities, according to event organizer Antonio Franklin, who says there will be a handful of live art demos and workshops and numerous local creators who will be displaying and selling their works.
For music, take in local indigenous drumming groups downtown at 11am and noon and dance the night away at the street dance in front of the Wild Rice Lounge featuring 4-Wheel Drive from 8pm until Midnight. If some friendly competition is more your style, there will be a 2-person golf scramble at the Mahnomen Country Club starting at 9am and a Bean Bag Tournament at 2pm. A Community Bike Ride is also planned for 10am.
And of course no festival is complete without food. Franklin says Wild Rice Days offers some local favorites for your feasting.
Franklin says their goal with Wild Rice Day is not just to provide community members with something to do, but to celebrate and connect people with the arts and culture of the region.
