Construction on the new Bemidji Veteran’s Home will be starting this fall with completion in 2023. Clearwater County Veterans Service Officer Logan LeClair shared this exciting news on Tuesday, August 10th on KKCQ’s Food For Thought program.
The Minnesota Department of Veteran’s Affairs is building three new State Veterans Homes in the communities of Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston.
The projects are proceeding with the support of funding from federal, state and local sources. The Bemidji Veterans Home will be located by Sanford in Bemidji which donated 15 acres for the new Veterans Home. Designed similar to a northwoods lodge, the Bemidji Veteran’s home will have a rustic feel to it.
The three Veterans Homes being built in the state are slated to receive more than $80 million in U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) State Home Construction Grants. During the 2018 Legislative Session, the Minnesota State Legislature allocated $12.4 million for the Bemidji Veterans Home in the Omnibus Bonding Bill.
Resident applications will be accepted at a date yet to be determined. Eligible Residents come from three categories: Eligible Veterans, spouses of eligible Veterans and Gold Star Parents.
