Drought’s Impact on Lakes
The long hot summer has been driving recreationalists to the lakes each weekend and they have probably noticed a slightly lower water line compared to past years. Nathan Olson is the area supervisor with the Minnesota DNR at the Detroit Lakes area fisheries and says there may be some boat access issues as the water level drops.
Olson says some efforts have been made to keep boaters aware on the water but everyone should use caution.
Other states facing drought have been faced with fishing and recreation restrictions but Olson says there are no plans to make similar moves yet.
Olson notes that waters have been warmer than usual which has been good for keeping the fish biting and the lake goer cooled off.
