Aitkin School Board Receives Apportionment, Approve 10-Year Maintenance Plan

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board moved forward with annual updates to contracts and plans for the upcoming school year during their Monday, July 19th meeting from the Aitkin High School Media Center.
During a special presentation, Aitkin County Land Commissioner Rich Courtemanche presented the Board a check for the apportionment money for the District.
The Board did accept a check from the County in the amount of $28,956. A resident came forth in the Public Comment Period asking about Aitkin School District’s recommendations for students wearing masks and other related COVID-19 information, which Superintendent Dan Stifter replied…
The Board did go on to approve volunteer coaches and extra-curricular assignments, the resignations of Teacher Shari Grunenwald and Girls Basketball and Softball Head coach Donovan Daiker, while also hiring SPED Teacher Jason Marcelo. Approval was also given for the MSBA Dues/Subscriptions for 2021-22, the renewal of MSHSL membership, and the Food Service Bid for Bread and Milk for the Fiscal Year of 2022.
Superintendent Stifter and Business Manager Heather Hipp discussed the Long Term Facilities Maintenance 10-year plan.
Stifter also brought to the Board a $1,000 need to purchase a tax calculator for the Capital Projects Levy microsite.
The Board also did approve an amendment to change one polling place from Aitkin City Hall to the Journey North Church and the resolution calling an Election Approving a Capital Projects Levy Authorization.
The Aitkin Public School Board is next scheduled to meet for a Work Session meeting at 7pm Monday, July 26th from the High School Media Center.
