Steinmetz Successful Breakfast on the Farm
Mahnomen, MN – June is dairy month and what better way to learn about where diary products come from than on a dairy after a delicious meal! The 2021 Mahnomen Breakfast on the Farm was hosted by Steinmetz Farm and turned into a huge success serving over 1,000 people. Owner Jim Steinmetz said that it was a beautiful day, people showed up, and it was a good turn out.
Steinmetz Farm is a robtic dairy, currently milking 154 head of Holstein cows. There are three automated milking machines, a milk replacer mixer for the calves, and a feed sweeper to push the forage closer to the cows, all of which visitors could see in action. This frees up Jim to do other things around the farm or in his personal life.
Steinmetz started milking in 1980 and switched to the robotic system in 2009. The family operation has had at least three generations working together since the start of the operation, and remains true today. Steinmetz mentioned what it’s like to work on the family farm.
After a year of uncertainty and not seeing friends, the breakfast on the farm event was much needed for all who attended.
Those who attended got to see how the Steinmetz Farm operates and where their dairy products come from; a 21st Century, family operation in Mahnomen county Minnesota.
