Dave Shipley was looking to go back to back for the Dakota Cat Mod Shootout but Matt Aukland was looking to play spoiler. Those two battled for most of the race with Shipley leading, but late in the race Aukland’s continued pressure finally paid as he made the pass for the lead with just a few laps remaining.

IMCA NORTHERN SPORTMOD


Cautions plagued the start of the sport mod feature. Tori Fisher was your early leader, but had Scott Jacobson and Ryan Restad were hard charging behind. Jacobson was able to sneak underneath Fisher with 9 to go to take over the lead. Soon after Restad and Jacobson began battling for the lead as they raced side by side until Restad finally cleared Jacobson with 5 to go. Restad would pick up his 3rd win in a row.

Rick Schulz, Andrew Jochim, and Derrick Kronbach would race 3-wide for the lead in the opening laps before Jochim cleared both on lap 3 while the rest of the field raced 3 and 4 wide behind. A caution on lap 7 would allow the field to settle down. Rob VanMil took advantage of the restart and was able to catch Jochim, but not pass him. Jochim slipped with 5 to go handing over the lead to Trent Grager and VanMil and Grager would go on to win.
