(Aitkin, MN) — This past week, R&J Broadcasting, Incorporated presented a story of Attorney Ed Shaw, representing Garrison Disposal, with a letter concerning the Rezoning/Conditional Use Application by Waste Management for purpose of changing the recycling facility into a full solid waste transfer station.
Our Doug Gillette spoke to Aitkin County Environmental Service Director Andrew Carlstrom, who the letter was addressed to, about clarification of the facility being a “drop-off” point as opposed to a full solid waste station.
Concerns from surrounding residents and businesses at the May 17th Planning and Zoning meeting about the potential hazards of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in the open air were also rationalized.
A final decision on the Waste Management application will be made at the next Planning and Zoning Meeting.
Carlstrom also reiterated that Waste Management would not be receiving any tax incentives, assistance, or subsidies with this potential agreement.
