City of Halstad Discuss Former High School Purchase Agreement
Halstad, MN — The City of Halstad held a special meeting on Monday night, May 24th to discuss the purchase agreement approved by the Norman County West School to sell the former High School to the city. The agreement states that the city would purchase the school building and surrounding property, minus the bus garage, for $1. Also in return the city of Halstad would receive $60,000 from the new district to cover asbestos abatement and transitional costs. A similar purchase agreement has been offered to the city of Hendrum for the soon to be vacant elementary. Halstad Mayor Darin Johnson says the council had some good discussions, but they do have some concerns before agreeing to the deal.
The Halstad City Council, which has been meeting virtually since last spring, also rescinded their COVID-19 Emergency Declaration at their special meeting on Monday and will now return to meeting in-person.
