City of Mahnomen to Reinstate Late Fees & Water Shutoffs
Mahnomen, MN — Since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020, the City of Mahnomen has been deferring water shut offs and also suspending the collection of late penalties. But as the pandemic comes to an end, the Mahnomen City Council is reversing that decision and will now begin reinstating late penalties and shutoffs effective August 1st. Mahnomen City Administrator Mitch Berg says there are a number of resources that residents can utilize if they still need help paying their utility bills.
Again the website for utility assistance is www.renthelpmn.org. You can also contact Mahnomen City Hall for more information.
The Mahnomen City Council last week also had a public nuisance hearing regarding the Home and Fashion building, which was destroyed in a fire last year. Berg says they are hoping to get that property cleaned sometime this summer.
And Administrator Berg brought forward an opportunity to the council to apply for a Federal EDA grant, in which the city could received up to an 80% match for infrastructure expansion.
The City of Mahnomen is also applying for a Small Cities Development Block Grant to assist the Helping Hands Food Shelf.
