(Aitkin, MN) — With increasing traffic through the Lakes area, speed enforcement and traffic related fatalities are seeing increases with the warming weather.
During our monthly conversation with the Aitkin County Toward Zero Deaths Coalition, we spoke to Minnesota Patrol Lieutenant Gordon Shank about recent enforcement that saw a great number of speeding violations all over Minnesota.
With the increase of traffic, multiple factors besides speed play into potential crashes and fatalities.
Distracted driving being one of those multiple crash factors and soon-to-be 2-year anniversary of the “Hands-Free” Law has also continued to be troublesome for the State Patrol.
Lieutenant Shank also mentioned that speed enforcement will continue throughout the year, going into the “100 Deadliest Days” on Minnesota roads between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
