Otter Tail County Set to Host Governor’s Fishing Opener
Otter Tail, MN — The Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener is just days away! Otter Tail County will finally host the 73rd annual event May 13th – 15th after it was delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the goal of spotlighting their welcoming communities and numerous recreational opportunities remains the same. Otter Tail County with it’s 1,048 lakes, more than any other county in the nation, is the perfect spot to host this event, according to Local Planning Chair Erik Osberg.
While the fishing is superb, Osberg says can discover your “Inner Otter” via a number of other outdoor activities throughout Otter Tail County.
The Governor’s Fishing Opener will bring hundreds of media members from all over the state into Otter Tail County. Osberg says the event will be a major boost to the local economy, both short term and long term.
The Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition in Minnesota since 1948. It was designed to improve Minnesota’s economy through the development and promotion of the state’s recreational opportunities, especially fishing. The last time the opener was held in Otter Tail County was in 1997 when it was held in Fergus Falls.
R & J Broadcasting, Inc will have live updates from the Governor’s Fishing Opener celebration this Friday, May 14th in Otter Tail County.
