Aitkin School Board approves JR High Coaches, discusses HS Graduation at April 19th meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board held their regular monthly meeting Monday night to discuss the additions of Springs coaches, teachers, and extending tenure to staff from the Aitkin High School Media Center.
After comments from visitors on behalf of Arts potentially being reduced at Rippleside Elementary, the Board did approve Safe Ride Youth Service Grant, 2022-23 School Calendars, the hiring of Logan Quade as a Junior High Baseball coach, extending the contract for Samantha Croatt and Meredith Sander as HS Counselors, Chris Halvorson for Band Lessons, and Erik Heimark for Agriculture, and tenure was approved for Andrea Poole, Amanda Steffens, and Jennifer McGuire.
The Board did discuss adding a coach for Junior High Softball.
The same discussion was also held for Junior High Girls Golf.
Those additions were approved with Lindsey Cline and Kurt Earhart splitting the Golf Coach position and Tim Shereck as Softball Coach. Approval was also given to add Title Teacher for Reading and Math Interventions at Rippleside Elementary, and a 6th Grade Teacher using CARES Act and ESSER Funds for the 2021-22 year only. Adding a Special Education Teacher for the High School.
That was approved by the Board to help in reducing class sizes for one year, and approval was to rescind the letter of agreement from July 202 regarding Co-Curricular pay. Superintendent Dan Stifter spoke to the Board on High School Graduation, dependent on Guidelines from MDE.
The Aitkin Public School Board will have another Work Session meeting on Monday, May 3rd at 7pm, with their next regular meeting on Monday, May 17th at 7pm from the High School Media Center.
