American Rescue Plan Also Provides Stimulus for Local Governments
St. Paul, MN — The American Rescue Plan doesn’t just provide a stimulus for individuals and families, it will also be a stimulus for local governments and schools. The bill, signed into law by President Biden on Thursday, included $350 billion for states and local governments. Minnesota itself will receive about $4.9 billion. District 4B Representative Paul Marquart commented on the bill on the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program on Friday. He says the amount of aid it provides will be very impactful for local governments.
According to estimates, Norman County will receive $1.24 million, Mahnomen County will see just over 1 million, Polk County will get over $6 million, and Clay County $12.4 million. Some examples of funding for local cities include: Ada ($180,000), Twin Valley ($90,000), Halstad ($60,000), Mahnomen ($140,000), and Fosston ($170,000).
Marquart says local schools will also see a bump in one-time funding.
The American Rescue Plan also includes $15 billion for Small Business Emergency Injury Disaster Loans, another $7 billion in funding for Paycheck Protection Plan, and $25 billion in emergency rental assistance.
