Press Release from Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office:

On February 22, 2021, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of an Aitkin High School substitute teacher having provided a juvenile with alcohol.  The investigation revealed that the substitute teacher had befriended a student and had, on multiple occasions, provided that student with alcohol.

On February 23, 2021, Guy Willard Blessing, 77, of Aitkin, was arrested on the charge of Gross Misdemeanor Furnish Alcohol to Minor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail, $3,000 fine or both.

Mr. Blessing appeared in Court on February 24, 2021, and was released on conditions of no contact with the student and no unsupervised contact with any persons under the age of 18.  His next court appearance is April 19, 2021.

In concern for public safety the Aitkin High School administration was notified of this offense.  The school provided the comment that as of February 23, 2021, Blessing will no longer substitute teach at Aitkin High School.
