NMPH Holds Another Community Testing Event in Twin Valley on Wednesday
Twin Valley, MN — Norman-Mahnomen Public Health held another community testing event on Wednesday in Twin Valley in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Norman County East School District. They held their first one last Friday which had 56 community members participate and 16% of them tested positive. Norman-Mahnomen Public Health Director Sarah Kjono says having some surveillance and identifying the positive cases as soon as possible is they key to slowing the spread.
Not only was Norman-Mahnomen Public Health able to set up community testing events, but they have been able to get test results back within 24 hours. Outbreaks amongst students have occurred in many area schools already this year, but this outbreak caught many by surprise because of the lack of positive cases in the community leading up to the outbreak. Kjono says no one thing or person is really to blame, but it shows what can happen when we let our guard down during a pandemic.
The Norman County East School is expected to return to in-person learning on March 4th.
