Gary City Approves Bid to Demolish Former NCE Elementary
Gary — The former Norman County East School is soon to be coming down, or most of it anyways. The Gary City Council approved a bid for the demolition of the building at their most recent council meeting last week. The demolition is slated to begin in early March, but not all is coming down. Gary Mayor Buck Engen says they will be leaving the gym and some surrounding spaces for repurposing.
The estimated cost for the demolition is just over $100,000 and will come in under the $130,000 gifted to the city from the school to cover those costs. The city is planning on repurposing the gym and cafeteria into an events center.
In other news from the City of Gary, Engen says the water tower and water treatment facility projects continue to go well and they are looking into getting the treatment facility operating ahead of schedule.
The Gary City Council meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
