Felton’s Andy Pake Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Felton, MN — In the 1990s, one of the biggest names in all of snowmobiling was Felton, MN native Brad Pake. Brad won races and championships throughout multiple snowmobiling racing disciplines, including snocross and cross country. He also was an accomplished sprint car racer. Now his son, 17 year old Andy Pake, is following in his footsteps and climbing the snowmobile racing ranks. Pake will be competing in the ProLite series in front of his hometown friends and family this weekend as the Amsoil Snocross Series comes to Red River Valley Speedway. Andy, who has been racing for over 6 years now, says he’s pretty excited to race in his home area, and a track that his dad competed on in a sprint car years ago.
While his dad won several championships with Arctic Cat and was very loyal to the brand throughout his career, Andy shocked many in the snowmobile world this year by switching to Ski Doo. Pake says while it’s a big change, it’s a move that he hopes will help propel his career to the next level.
Andy also doesn’t take for granted the support from his father, who’s been there and done that on a snowmobile throughout his career and knows what it takes to win races.
This weekend’s snocross event will bring some challenges. Wind Chill temps will be at least in the teens below zeros in an area with no windbreak, but Pake says he’s more concerned for the fans than the riders.
. Look for Andy on the #64 Thelen Racing Ski-Doo in the Pro-Lite division. Of course he’s not the only local competing. Fertile’s Logan Christian will be on the #43 Arctic Cat in the Pro Division. Racing is this Friday and Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway. For the full schedule of events as well as tickets, go to www.snocross.com.
