McGregor School Board approves meeting date changes, updates on sports at January 4th meeting

(McGregor, MN) — The McGregor School Board returned Monday evening for a pair of meetings to establish organizational efforts and address Junior High Sports.
Superintendent Brad Johnson began with the Oath of Office for Board members Jennifer Brekke, Jordan Moser, Pat Scollard, and Bethany Sellers.
Larry Doten was nominated and again retained the position as McGregor School Board Chair with Heather Sorenson taking Vice Chair. Board Clerk was taken by Pat Scollard and Treasurer was awarded to Jennifer Brekke.
Commencing into the regular meeting, Aitkin County Public Health Director Erin Melz provided some positive news on COVID-19 that affects the District.
The Board also made a change to meetings for the 2nd and 4th meetings of each month at 6pm, and approved Committees for 2021. Setting a meeting fee amount and Board officer salaries were tabled until a later meeting pending further discussion.
Going into the Work Session meeting, Superintendent Johnson presented an email from a concerned parent to the Board on restarting Junior High sports.
Johnson and Activities Director Bob Staska reviewed the availability of Junior High sports for the winter.
Staska gave his opinion on what should happen with Junior High sports.
Staska also provided an update on masks being worn with the return of winter sports.
The McGregor School Board and Administration did receive confirmation from the Departments of Education and Health on Tuesday allowing the McGregor School District to return to full in-person learning starting Tuesday, January 19th.
