Year in Review – Mahnomen Sheriff COVID Struggles
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, area law enforcements have had to juggle through a number of challenges and complications and still do their absolute best to protect the community they serve. Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther spoke about those challenges during our Year in Review conversation. Sheriff Guenther notes that like nurses and school teachers, they’ve struggled with keeping the department healthy and fully staffed at times, but his officers always rose to the occasion to fill in when needed.
Another challenge that the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office has and continues to face is jailing. Sheriff Guenther says with outbreaks at area jails they’ve struggled to find places to bring their inmates.
The good news is that the call load for the Sheriff’s office is down approximately 40% from previous years, which Guenther says is associated with people staying home more this year due to restrictions.
