Aitkin School Board approves Return to School Date for January 4th at meeting from December 21st

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board had plenty to cover from their final regular meeting of 2020 with the Truth and Taxation, approving a Capital Projects Levy, and the plan to return to school.
District Business Manager Heather Hipp presented during the Truth and Taxation Meeting on how the District’s Levy is calculated.
The 2020 payable 2021 Levy Certification, the 2019-20 Audit from Clifton, Larson, Allen, and the bids for High School updates for January 26th was approved by the Board. Approval was also given the second reading of policies for Field Trips, Home Schooling, School District System Accountability, and Assessment of Student Achievement. Deb Bosserman was hired as a Long Term Substitute Teacher and Tenure was given to Sue Peterson by the Board.
Superintendent Dan Stifter continued conversation to the Board on reestablishing the Capital Projects Levy for the upcoming April election.
The Board approved a 5-2 vote to run a Special Election on the Capital Projects Levy on May 11th, 2021 with written comments from the Board by February 10th, 2021. Stifter also mentioned insurance increases for Para’s and cook to meet Affordable Care Act requirements.
The resolution was approved, as well as continuing the current daily schedule for in-person students and allowing 40 minutes for educators to reach out to remote learners each day. Superintendent Stifter also talked about the frustrations of establishing a return to school plan after the latest round of executive orders and shutdowns.
The Aitkin School District moved to return Grades 4-12 to in-person learning starting January 4th, 2021.
The Aitkin School Board will next be meeting on Monday, January 11th, 2021 at 7pm.
