Halstad, MN — The Halstad City Council will continue to work with the Norman County West School with their original plan to take over the former high school building without the help of the Halstad Business League. The council met with the Halstad Business League in a closed session in early December as they were still interested in the property as well. According to Halstad Mayor Lori Delong, the HBL had pitched a plan for them to take over the north wing of the high school, which the school had planned to demolish, and the city could have the south wing. However, following their discussions, Delong says the City of Halstad will continue with their original deal with the school of purchasing the south wing for a $1 and the school demolishing the rest of the building.
The Halstad City Council also took a look at their Free Lot Program recently. Mayor Delong says some of the stipulations of the program are a little outdated, so they will be making updates to meet current standards.
This month’s meeting was the last one for Mayor Delong, who chose not to run for re-election this fall. She says the city got a lot accomplished during her term, but it was time to move on to other things.
Current councilmember Darrin Johnson will take over as Mayor in January.
