Shevlin, MN — Life on the road as a truck driver is never an easy job. Mix in a global pandemic and it gets considerably more difficult. Jake Shellum is a flatbed truck driver based out of Shevlin, MN. This spring he was delivering lumber, steel, OHVs, and tractors all across the nation and faced many of those difficulties. Shellum says as states started shutting down restaurants, rest areas, and many of his usual stops, it became increasingly difficult to find places to park and eat during his long hauls.
Another concern for Shellum, who is a father of 8 children, was the fear of bringing the virus home and getting someone from family sick. However, he had to keep trucking so that he could continue to bring home a paycheck. It’s because of his sacrifices and his dedication that Shellum is being recognized by the Jones Soda Company as one of their Unsung Heroes. To honor Jake and bring awareness to truck drivers nationwide, Jones Soda will be placing a photo of him and his daughter on 50,000 of their soda bottles, a photo that was taken by Jake’s wife.
The soda bottles featuring Shellum and his daughter should be hitting shelves sometime after the new year. The Jones Soda Unsung Heros campaign was created to honor those have gone above and beyond with out recognition.
