Baxter Mayor Talks Ice Rinks, Trail Improvements from December 1 Meeting
(BAXTER, MN) — The city of Baxter held a regular council meeting on Tuesday, December 1, so we spoke with Mayor Darrel Olson to get caught up to speed.
Olson said the meeting was relatively routine. In the work session prior to the meeting, Olson says the city discussed the possibility of opening ice rinks and warming houses for the winter and the logistical obstacles that could be faced in the process. Ultimately, a decision was tabled for December 15.
During the meeting, the city also solidified its relationship with Camp Ripley regarding some land on the southwest border of the city, in which the Camp will work to maintain the land while adding more protected property.
Finally, Olson mentioned that the city discussed upgrading the entrance via the trail under the bridge over the Mississippi River, which was approved and will begin to go in motion this coming spring.
We thank Mayor Olson for his time. The next regular council meeting for the city of Baxter is scheduled for December 15. Our full interview with Olson can be found below.
