Brainerd Sesquicentennial Week Events Opening Day 9-18
Brainerd Airport 75th Anniversary Carnival
As the ‘takeoff’ into the sesquicentennial week, the Airport is hosting a carnival in celebration of the Airport’s 75th anniversary and Brainerd’s 150th anniversary from 9:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, September 18th. Fun is sure to take flight with kids activities, cars and aircraft viewings, touch a truck, prizes, food, and a medallion hunt.
Downtown History Walk
Take in the sights of picturesque downtown Brainerd, MN. A local historian and tour guide will lead you around the charming brick buildings that align the downtown streets where you will look up, down and all around at things that will surprise and enlighten you.
Your guide will stop and talk about the significance of the buildings around town, the people who built them, and the unique historical stories surrounding them. The tour includes brief sidewalk stops at historically relevant sites. Early images of Brainerd help to bring the past to life. You will be able to compare Brainerd’s first building with today’s cityscape. Be wowed by the pieces of history still here today and inspired by the history of those that came before us.
Guided public tours are available by advance reservation – online purchase or via phone. This tour is limited to 10 people. Tour durations last approximately 90 minutes. Please dress accordingly for walking tours.

Jaycee’s Rubber Duckie Race
Nearly 5,000 little rubber duckies will launch from East River Road on to a 700 ft slip n slide for the Brainerd Jaycees Lil’ Rubber Duckie Race. This 10th annual event will raise funds for youth sports in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Prizes available!
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased through the Brainerd Junior Jaycees, Brainerd Warrior Cheer team, Brainerd Chamber of Commerce, Brainerd Cub Foods, Baxter Cub Foods, Livewell Chiropractic, and Hytec Construction.
Kickoff Proclamation & City Council Alumni event
Mayor Dave Badeaux will kick off Sesquicentennial week with the Sesquicentennial Proclamation, some brief comments on the history and development of the city will be made by current and past council members, performances will be done by cast of the Paul Bunyan Musical.
