Underwood 56 vs. Hancock 61

Hancock returns to the State Girls Basketball tournament for the first time since 2011 as they held off Underwood 61-56.  The 27-1 Owls trailed for only 20 seconds in the game after a quick 11-0 start, then a 30-13 lead in the first half.  Hancock’s lead was down to five points , 30-25 at halftime as Underwood ended the first half with an 11-0 run.  The second half again saw Hancock score six quick points for a 36-25 lead.  Underwood began forcing turnovers leading to points and tied the game twice— 43-43 and 45-45.  The Underwood Rockets had their only lead of the game at 56-55 with 3:50 remaining.  Hancock responded with defensive effort, two transition baskets and  free throws to seal the victory and earn the state trip.   Underwood ends the season 23-4.
