Staples-Motley at Pillager
A monster third inning lifted Pillager to their fourth straight win over the Staples-Motley Cardinals and brought them back to .500 on the season.
Briana Blais was terrific in the circle for the Huskies, allowing only three Cardinals hits and striking out seven in the five inning win.
Pillager scored twice in the bottom of the first, and could’ve had more if it weren’t for a line-drive double play executed by Cardinal shortstop Ali Olander.
After a scoreless second, the Huskies busted the game open in the third, as they sent 12 batters to the plate, scoring eight runs with five hits. Hannah Christle and Sam Berent each had two-run hits in the inning.
With the game 10-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies put some padding on the mercy rule with three more runs on four hits.
Blais retired the final seven batters she faced as the Cardinals weren’t able to muster any threat to extend the game.
Pillager is now 7-7 and will face Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in their annual “Under the Lights” game tomorrow night. Pregame is scheduled for 7:55 on CASH 95.9 & rjbroadcasting.com.
Staples-Motley falls to 1-8 and will play Crosby-Ironton in a doubleheader Monday.
