Pequot Lakes at Pillager
With a location change due to field conditions, the Patriots and Huskies played in Pillager. It was Pillager’s third game of the season after hosting a doubleheader on Tuesday, and it was the opener for Pequot Lakes.
Pitching controlled the first half of the game, as Pillager tallied the lone run through four and half innings. The Patriots got the leadoff man on in each of the first three innings, had them in scoring position, but couldn’t find the clutch hit. Eli Miller, who started on the mound for the Huskies, drove in Cowen Cremers with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the third.
Some early season struggles lead to the rest of the scoring for the game. Pillager extended the lead to 3-0 with two runs without a hit in the bottom of the fifth by taking five consecutive walks. Pequot Lakes scored their only run in the top of the sixth without a hit thanks to two Pillager errors. The Huskies then scored two more in the bottom of the sixth, again without a hit, keyed by three hit batsmen and two Patriot errors.
In the top of the seventh, Pequot Lakes got the first two men aboard, but a hard line drive double play squashed their momentum and the Huskies sealed the win.
Pillager is 1-2 and is set to host Sebeka Friday. Pequot Lakes starts the year 0-1 and is scheduled to host Esko Friday.
