Pillager at Osakis
The Pillager Huskies took on the Osakis Silverstreaks under mostly calm, sunny conditions on a crisp fall afternoon for their final game of 2020. Unfortunately, the weather did not prove to be a good omen for the Huskies, as they fell flat against the Silverstreaks to end their season at 3-4.
The Silverstreaks opened the game with the ball and proceeded to methodically work their way down the field, running 11 times for 62 yards, never being held for a gain of less than 4 until Isaac Hetland powered his way in for a 3 yard touchdown run to give Osakis an 8-0 lead after a two-point conversion. The Silverstreaks won the battle up front in convincing fashion, which ended up being a consistent theme throughout the afternoon on both sides of the ball.
Pillager went 3-and-out on their first drive, which proved to be a harbinger of things to come; they struggled on offense all afternoon. Osakis punted on their next drive, but three plays later forced the first of three interceptions from quarterback Blake Clark, and took eight plays to drive 46 yards to score a touchdown via another rushing TD from Hetland to give Osakis a 14-0 lead.
Things appeared to get out of hand when Osakis successfully converted an onside kick on their next play and quarterback Bauer Klimek connected on a 32 yard pass to Carter Watnaas, and two plays later took it himself for a 10 yard TD run to make the score 22-0 after the two point conversion.
Pillager came alive after that, embarking on a 10 play, 72 yard TD drive that included a 16 yard hook-and-ladder play to Cole Hiltner on a fourth down, with the drive ending on a 1-yard TD punch-in from Hunter Gjovik to cut the lead to 22-6. Pillager’s next kickoff was then muffed by the Silverstreaks and the Huskies took over on their opponent’s 31 yard line, poised to make things interesting. Unfortunately, the excitement was short-lived, as the Huskies turned the ball over on downs and the Silverstreaks took nearly the rest of the time off the clock in the first half to score once more with Hetland and make it 28-6 at halftime.
The Silverstreaks stayed in command for the rest of the game, ultimately adding another TD from RB Duncan Vandergon. A RB pass from Gjovik to Hiltner wound up being the only other scoring that took place for the Huskies, and things ended at 34-12.
