Pequot Lakes at Fergus Falls
The Pequot Lakes Patriots improved to 3-1 with a win on the road at Fergus Falls.
The Otters, after forcing an opening three-and-out of the Patriots, scored on their opening drive with a 2-yard touchdown plunge by Kaden Hartwell. The PAT made it 7-0, and that would be it for the Fergus Falls offense. The Patriots defense was superb the rest of the night, including picking off junior QB Andrew Johnson three times.
The Patriot offense got on the board in the latter part of the 2nd quarter. After an Erik Larson interception that he returned to the six yard line, Bode Magnuson found Hunter Nybakken in the front corner of the end zone for the score. The PAT missed, and at the half the Patriots found themselves down by one.
Pequot Lakes then scored to take the lead on their opening drive of the third quarter. As Magnuson rolled to his right, Ryan Monahan got behind a defender and they connected for a 31-yard touchdown. The 2-point try failed, so the lead stood at 12-7. As the game went back and forth, there was a sense that one big play would make the difference. But both teams’ defenses held solid, and the final blow came when Pequot Lakes marched 62 yards in the final minutes, converting a 4th and 4 at the Otters’ 18 with the second scoring connection from Magnuson to Monahan to seal the deal.
The Patriots go to 3-1 and will travel to Thief River Falls on Thursday night to battle the Prowlers. Fergus Falls is now 1-3.
