Detroit Lakes at Pequot Lakes
It was a battle of 4-1 teams looking to head into the playoffs on a high note as the Lakers visited the Patriots.
Defense was the name of the game for the first quarter. The Pequot Lakes defense scored a quick three-and-out to begin the game only to be put on their heels after the first play from scrimmage for the Patriots was a turnover. The defense held again, and eventually the first quarter ended scoreless.
The offenses revved up in the 2nd quarter. Detroit Lakes scored first on an end-around to go up 7-0, the Patriots answered with the ensuing drive capped off with a Carter Sjoblad 5-yard score, and the Lakers responded on an 11-yard td scamper by Ethan Carrier. At the break, it was 14-6 Lakers.
For the second time this year, the first being the season opener vs. D-G-F, the defense of the Patriots adjusted well and pitched a shutout in the 2nd half. Pequot Lakes cut the lead to two late in the third quarter on the second touchdown of the night by Sjoblad, this one from 21 yards where he stretched out superman style for the score. The 2-point conversion was stuffed, allowing the Lakers to hold the lead.
The Patriots had a couple more chances in Lakers territory, but couldn’t complete the drive for the rally. Pequot Lakes finishes the regular season at 4-2, and will be a top-2 seed for the section 8AAA playoffs set to begin on Tuesday.
