Beaver Brae at Fort Frances Muskies
The Fort Frances Muskie boys hockey team hosted Beaver Brae in the NorWOSSA championship game last night at IFK Arena in a game heard on KGHS and rjbroadcasting.com. The Muskies would break through first on a power play goal by Taylor Chown at 9:40 of the first period and Ashton Barnes added to Fort lead less than 5 minutes later. The Broncos would break through in the final minute of first on the power play to make the score 2-1 after 1. There would be 3 total power plays goals in the second, two by the Muskies as Bo Gartzke and Nolan Mann scored to make it 4-1 before Beaver Brae made it 4-2 with just over 3 minutes left in the frame. The Muskies would take 6 consecutive minor penalties from late in the second to the midway point of the third but the Fort was able to survive and add late goals by Nolan Mann and Ashton Veldhuisen to win the NorWOSSA title by a final of 6-2. The title is the 39th for the Muskies since 1969. After the game, head coach Chris Sinclair said this team had to battle through an uncertain season.
