Game two wasn’t near as close as the Patriots jumped on the Gobblers and cruised to a 12-1 victory to claim the sweep.

In the bottom of the first, the Patriots scored five times benefitting from Gobblers’ miscues. Twice a batter struck out but reached base due to a passed ball. Both scored. Aitkin committed three errors in the inning as well. The Patriots had only one hit in the inning.

The Gobblers got on the board with a highlight – Megan Buchholz led off the second inning taking a change-up from Kaitlyn Geschwill and launching it over the left field fence.

That would be all for the Gobblers, however. Geschwill was outstanding in the circle, giving up just that one lone hit and striking out 11. Twice Geschwill struck out the side in order, and she retired the final 12 batters after the solo shot by Buchholz.

The Patriots bats got hot and they added four runs on four hits in the third to pull away, then put the mercy rule in effect in with three more in the bottom of the fourth.

Pequot Lakes starts the year 4-0 (2-0 MSC) and has defeated the Gobbles in 14 straight meetings. Aitkin falls to 1-3 (1-2 MSC).
