Hendrum, MN -- A small group of students at the Norman County West Elementary are taking part in a unique opportunity to create their own video game through one the school’s enrichment offerings. 5th grade teacher Tanner Stoltz has handpicked a group of students to participate in a Technology Club at recess, where students are learning to code and animate the game. Stoltz says the technology that they are using is simple, but similar to that they would use in the real world.
The students learned some of the fundamentals in the first few weeks of the program, but Stoltz says their next step will be a bit more challenging as they figure out animation.
Throughout this whole process, the students must learn to work as a team, which Stoltz says is more important in the technology field than what most people realize.
Stolz adds that they hope to be able to showcase the game to the community once it is completed. Along with the technology club, students at Norman County West also have opportunities to participate in a reading club and a math club. All the staff members who lead these enrichments volunteer their time.
