Grain Bin Safety Bill

Last week was Grain Bin Safety Week in Minnesota, as proclaimed by Governor Tim Walz. In response, Senator  Nick Frentz spnsored a  Grain Bin Safety bill The legislation, heard in the Senate Agriculture Committee last  week, is a voluntary  program designed to reduce farm accidents through establishing farm safety grants and education programs accoding to the bill's author Senator Nick Frentz. The legislation, called Landon’s Law, is named after 18-year old Landon Gran of St. Peter, Minnesota who died in a grain bin last August. The Frentz bill provides funding to allow farmers to apply for grants to help pay for grain storage safety equipment such as automatic shutoffs, safety enhancements to augers or other grain bin safety equipment. It also provides funding for farm safety education programs. The bill passed out of committee and was referred to Agriculture, Rural Development, and Housing Finance Committee. Sen. Frentz is hopeful the bill will be on the floor of the Senate in early March.
