(Crosby, MN) — Cuyuna Regional Medical Center and a host of area health professionals will speak and open discussion to families and youth with the “Seize the Awkward” mental health event on Monday, May 16th at 6pm in the Mayberry Auditorium at the Crosby-Ironton High School.
In our conversation with one of the speakers for the event, Psychiatrist Lauren Phillips, M.D, She did talk about the “Seize the Awkward” organization and the partnership with Smiles for Jake.
Dr. Phillips also says not talking about mental health has seen youth taking their own lives which places more importance on this discussion.
There are warning signs out there if someone is thinking about taking their own life.
Dr. Phillips also talked about youth being affected by the COVID Pandemic and being isolated.
“Seize the Awkward” is to attend and registration can be done online. Other local mental health presenters include Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Family Physician Kara Maucieri, M.D.; Psychiatrists Darshana Bhattacharyya and Psychologist Kristin Furan, Psy.D.; and Psychotherapist Katie Nystrom, M.S.W.
Those attending should use the school’s north entrance and park their vehicle in the student parking lot.
