Lake Park, MN — The Omicron variant is sweeping across the nation causing record numbers of positive cases in recent weeks, it’s not the only form of sickness causing trouble for our local schools. The Lake Park-Audubon shut down in-person classes a couple days early prior to the holiday break due to an outbreak of Influenza. Lake Park-Audubon Elementary Principal Craig Bahr says between the elementary and high school, they had more than 100 kids dealing with the good ol’ fashioned flu bug.

Down the road on Highway 10, COVID is still the main concern in the building at the moment. Hawley Elementary Principal Chris Ellingson says they’ve seen an uptick in positive cases following the holidays and are dealing with staff shortages.

Currently there are 22 active cases in the Hawley School District, including 6 staff members, 4 preschool, 9 elementary, and 3 high school cases.
