More Counties Under Fire Restrictions

The existing severe to extreme drought conditions have prompted the Minnesota DNR to place additional counties under burning restrictions. Effective July 20th, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau are among the counties enforcing burning restrictions. Sheriff Darin Halverson says in Clearwater County the fire danger level is extreme.
The dry conditions have contributed to other hazards as well. The livestock grazing land is burning up. Cattle have been getting out of their fencing and creating a hazard for motorists on the roadway.
The lack of much needed rain has dropped the lake levels exposing items that are normally deeper in the water.
