Minnesota Extension Comments on Harsh Drought Conditions
By: Mary Balstad
Polk County, MN — Throughout the month of June local crops have struggled with the harsh drought conditions brought on by high temperatures. Despite getting rain on Sunday, June 20th, farmers are expecting yet another rain shortage as a possible heatwave makes its way through the greater Midwest once again. Extension educator Heather Dufault spoke about these challenging conditions producers faced on the Food for Thought program on Wednesday, June 23rd.
Dufault commented on how the hotter weather seemingly comes earlier each year, and with it comes small infestations of pests like spider mites or the light amount of fungi.
Other news from the Extension office is their annual appearance at county fairs. This week representatives will be at the Mahnomen County Fair. They will also have a booth at the Polk County Fair.
