Aitkin School Board gets Graduation plans finalized, discuss Capital Projects Levy number

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board meeting Monday night (May 17th) provided finalizing discussions for High School Graduations and personnel updates for the following school year from the High School Media Center.
Aitkin High School Paul Karelis informed the Board on the plans for Graduation that will be outdoors for the second consecutive year.
Karelis also presented an alternative plan.
The Board moved to approve the resignations of Kelly Blake as .42 Choral Director and One Act Play Director, Amanda Sorby as Junior High Volleyball coach, Andrea Zasmeta as Assistant Varsity Dance Coach, Scott Sherman as Alternative School Teacher, Alaine Sandberg from her multiple positions, Briana Tetrick as Promo Committee Advisor, Craig Larson as DCD Special Education Teacher, and Gary Blake as Alternative School Principal. The hiring of Kelly Sue Jelencich-Klein as Special Education Teacher and Dan Krueger as a business Education Teacher for the 2021-22 school year were also approved.
Aitkin Superintendent Dan Stifter spoke about increasing sports fees for the High School from $100 to $120 per season and Junior High from $55 to $60 without doing the third sport free.
The adjusted fees were approved by the Board. Superintendent Stifter also opened discussion on approving an amount for the Capital Projects Levy.
The Board will be holding a Special Board meeting to continue discussion on the Capital Projects Levy on Monday, May 24th.
