Crow Wing County Board Renames Rat Lake in April 27 Meeting
(BRAINERD, MN) — The Crow Wing County Board met for the second time in the month of April on Tuesday, April 27.
It was a relatively short meeting. Among the highlights of the meeting was a public hearing regarding a possible name change for Rat Lake. A lakeshore resident presented a petition by residents to rename it to Little Ossawinnamakee Lake, citing negative connotations with the current name.
The board also heard from the Sherriff’s Office, who presented a proposal to apply for a new grant from Sourcewell that would enhance the county’s drone program.
Finally, county administrator Tim Houle provided an update regarding COVID vaccinations to the board. Houle mentioned that while county-wide vaccination rates continue to exceed state averages, he anticipates that changing in the near future as vaccine hesitancy plays a role and the rest of the state catches up.
